Overview

Unlike the resort-heavy atmosphere of Diani or Watamu, Kilifi is defined by its creek, a broad, mangrove-lined estuary navigated by traditional wooden dhows, sailboats, and kayaks. The Kilifi Creek Sailing Club is one of East Africa's oldest and most active. Clifftop villas and boutique properties perched above the creek offer views of extraordinary beauty, particularly at sunset.
The Kuruwitu Marine Conservation Area, established through community action, has demonstrated remarkable reef recovery and offers guided snorkelling that showcases locally-led conservation results.
