Most visitors to Kenya travel on an Electronic Travel Authorisation rather than a traditional visa. Here is what it costs, how long it takes, and where to apply directly so you are not charged twice for the same thing.

Applying for the eTA
Kenya's Electronic Travel Authorisation, known as the eTA, has replaced the visa for most visitors. Apply only at the official site, https://www.etakenya.go.ke. A number of lookalike third party sites exist and charge an extra fee for the same application, so check the address carefully before you pay.
The fee is approx. USD 30. Processing usually takes 48 to 72 hours, though we recommend applying at least one week before you travel to leave room for any delay. Once issued, the eTA is valid for 3 months from the date of issue, covering stays of up to 90 days.
Who needs one
Citizens of East African Community countries do not need an eTA to enter Kenya. Most other African nationals can visit visa free for up to 2 months, though this varies by nationality and is worth confirming on the official site before you travel, since the rules were current as of 2026 and can change.
Children need their own eTA where one applies; each family member applies individually, including infants.
Before you fly
Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date and should have at least one blank page for entry stamps. Keep a copy of your approved eTA, printed or saved on your phone, in case it is requested on arrival.
